Hilltop towns Chianti

  • 8 hours

Tour Description

For those who love to explore the enchanting, hilltop, medieval villages we suggest to do two villages, San Gimignano and Volterra, with lunch in a family run restaurant. San Gimignano is well-known for its multiple towers and has some amazing views. It is one of the most fascinating towns in Tuscany and is home to some of the best gelato (ice cream). We recommend including a gelato making class. Volterra is a walled medieval town famous for its Etruscan heritage and alabaster works. There is also a Roman amphitheater in the town. Explore the two towns on your own to discover the beauty of these two gems. Customize the day to your group's needs and accommodation location.

TOUR: 3 days in Tuscany
We recently used "We Drive you Tuscany" for 3 x full day tours. Everything was organised via email remotely from Australia and it was perfect. Great communication and recommendations initially to us via email.
We were given the same driver for all 3 days so the continuity / relationship was there - so this was great.
We had a very clean and modern luxury Van for all 3 days.
Day 1 Our driver/guide Tomas picked us up from Pisa train station and drove us to Siena - via the beautiful San Gimignano and Monteriggioni pointing out the sights along the way and giving advice about where to go/eat/sightsee.
Day 2 - Tomas collected us from our hotel in Siena and drove us through the Chianti area (Nth Tuscany) stopping at 3 wineries and also for lunch. He even took us to his local coffee shop for an espresso and a little known Etruscan tomb in Castellina.
Day 3 - Tomas collected us from our hotel in Montepulciano and drove us around a number of wineries and sites in the southern Tuscany area.
We recommend this small company and have already passed on the details to others. They were very competitive from a price point of view and nothing was too much trouble. Thanks for a great 3 days!

TOUR: San Gimignano/Volterra
Roberto was a wonderful guide. Very knowledgeable on a very wide range of subjects. He loves his job and his country. It shows in his passion. We learned a great deal about the history of this part of Italy. I would book him again.

We hired Wedriveyou.it for a full day. We planned our trip to include a couple wineries, lunch, a visit to Siena, and dinner in San Gimignano. Our driver, was the greatest. He was so knowledgeable of the area, providing commentary along the beautiful drive. He called ahead to our various stops to be sure we didn't have any problems. Even though our day was jammed full, he provided a relaxed atmosphere and got us to all our destinations. He suggested a wonderful local cafe for a quick breakfast before we got started. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect day. In fact, it turned out to be our favorite day of our 16 day tour across Italy, Croatia, and Greece. Additionally, booking with them was extremely easy. Tomas was very responsive and patient with all my questions. I highly recommend them. I give them 10 stars.

It was just the most lovely day. Roberto picked us up at our hotel in Florence at 9am and drove us to the medieval town of San Gimignano with spectacular views of the lavish Tuscan countryside, enriching education of the medieval architecture and towers, and the world famous gelato at the Gelateria Dondoli. We then left for Siena where we were met with a wonderful tour of Roberto's hometown. He, of course, knew all of the historical information about Siena, the Palio, the Piazza del Campo, the Siena Duomo, the museums, art and cuisine. We had delicious homemade pici pasta at the romantic Compagnia dei Vinattiere restaurant. The educational and enjoyable tour was yet more interesting because Roberto engulfed us in his love for his beautiful Siena. Roberto drove us back to our hotel about 6pm. We absolutely would highly recommend Roberto and We Drive You Tuscany! A highlight of our time in Italy.

We just returned from a fabulous day spent with Tomas touring the lovely Tuscany region. Our day began in Firenze with a pickup at our hotel followed by a stop at the beautiful palace gardens that overlook the city. Amazing views to be had from this point. From here we left the city to visit several wonderful hilltop mid evil cities including Siena and San Gimignano. We spent time at each village shopping, eating gelato and exploring the incredible ancient buildings that reflect the Midi-evil, Renaissance, and Byzantine periods. We ate a wonderful lunch in Siena and after visiting the sites there headed off to wine taste. Wine tasting was a really fun experience in itself. Quite tasty Chiantis and super Tuscans.
Tomas was an absolute delight and was very informative about Italian history, wine, and everyday topics. He was a joy to talk to. All and all a great way to spend a day seeing many sites and having fun. We hope to be back to perhaps do one of his bike tours!
